DPF warning light? Do this before it costs you thousands
05/04/2026 · 5 min read
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) captures soot from the exhaust and burns it off in a process called regeneration. If your driving pattern is mostly short, cold journeys — very common around Petersfield and Midhurst — the DPF never gets hot enough to regen and slowly clogs.
Early symptoms: - DPF warning light on the dash - Loss of power / limp mode - Cooling fan running longer than usual after you park - Strong exhaust smell
At this stage, we can usually clear it with a forced regeneration on our diagnostic equipment (around £90) or a chemical clean-in-situ (£180–£280). Leave it and the differential pressure will rise until the filter cracks or blocks solid — a full DPF replacement on most modern diesels is £1,200 to £2,500.
If your DPF light is on, don't wait. Call 01730 555 777 or book a diagnostic online.
